Nicholas John Willis is a highly experienced maritime professional with over four decades in the global shipping industry. As Managing Director of Ship Valuation Consultancy Limited, he specializes in independent commercial due diligence, Expert Witness and ship valuation services, primarily supporting law firms and financial institutions.
Nick began his career in 1985 in tanker chartering before transitioning into sale and purchase (S&P) broking, where he spent 15 years executing over 200 successful ship transactions across all major vessel types. His experience spans second-hand tonnage, newbuilding projects, demolition sales, and complex structured project-deals involving chartering and finance.
In 2003, Nick founded SVC Ltd establishing a distinctive, fully independent advisory model. Unlike traditional shipbrokers, SVC operates on a purely fee-based basis and does not engage in commission-driven transactions. This ensures complete objectivity in all valuation and consultancy work.
Throughout his career, Nick has valued a wide range of ocean-going merchant vessels and has been appointed as an Expert Witness in close to 300 arbitration and court cases across world wide jurisdictions, including the UK, Greece, Denmark, the Netherlands, Singapore, and the United States. He is a member of the Baltic Expert Witness Association (BEWA) and has contributed extensively to industry education.
He served for seven years as Course Director for the ‘Certificate in Vessel Valuation‘ online program delivered by Lloyd’s Maritime Academy, reflecting his commitment to advancing professional standards in ship valuation.
